St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital Peramiho is a non-profit making Voluntary Agency regional referral Hospital. To know Peramiho hospital better you need to know about the “Benedictines! The Congregation of the Missionary Benedictines of St. Ottilien was established in 1884 in Germany. In 1889 they made new foundation in Dar es Salaam. 31st July 1898, arrived P. Cassian Spiss OSB and founded Peramiho Mission on Peramiho hill being the first and motherstation of catholic faith in Ungoni land. Later, in 1901, the first four sisters came to Peramiho, With true missionary zeal, they bored the difficulties of the climate, disease, language and culture. They started immediately a “hospital” and school. The hospital was named after St. Joseph the carpenter (worker) principally feast day March 19, was in the New Testament. St. Joseph is Jesus’ earthly father and the Virgin Mary’s husband. St. Joseph is the Patron of the universal church in Roman Catholicism and his life is recorded in the Gospels particularly Matthew and Luke. St. Joseph was a descendant of
the house of King David.

When illness finally came, Joseph had Jesus and Mary by his side, their love never abandoned him when he was isolated from everyone else. Through the years, St. Joseph became associated with comforting the sick and dying and many hospitals and health care facilities throughout the world have been given the name Saint Joseph’s for this reason.
